How can I distinguish total attendance from unique participants?

Jen

I want to organize events and participants in Busabase. If one customer attends three events, that counts as three attendances but only one unique participant. How should I structure the records to calculate both figures? Once the data is linked, how can I check whether a total represents attendance records or distinct people?

Treat attendance and people as different things. Create three linked Bases in Busabase: People (one record per person, with a stable person or customer ID), Events, and Attendance (one record linking one person to one event, with check-in time and status).

If Mei attends three events, she has three Attendance records but one People record. Count attendance records for total visits; count distinct linked person IDs for unique participants. Decide whether your unit is one attendance per event or one per session within an event, and check for an existing person-and-event pair before creating another attendance record.

Example People, Attendance and Events structure: four visits made by two unique people

When you show a figure to the team, label its unit explicitly: “42 attendances across events” versus “28 distinct people.” A regular linked-record Count counts values; it does not automatically remove a person who appears in several attendance records. Have an Agent or report deduplicate by the stable person ID and show the IDs and date range used before treating the unique-person total as final. Do you also need a separate count for unique people within each event?
