How does name sorting work when records contain Chinese text, English, and numbers?

QiangDiao Li

I’m planning to organize resources in Busabase with names containing Chinese text, English words, and labels such as “Issue 2” and “Issue 10.” How can I understand the order used when sorting by name? If the resources must follow a strict issue-number sequence, should I store that number in a separate numeric field instead?

A saved Busabase view compares text names with natural number ordering, so “Issue 2” normally comes before “Issue 10.” The relative order of Chinese and English text follows locale-aware text comparison; it is useful for browsing, but I would not rely on it as a fixed business sequence across languages or environments.

If the issue number must be exact, keep a separate Number field such as “Issue number,” put 2 and 10 there, and sort the view by that field. Keep the readable name for people, and add a second sort field if two records can have the same number. Store other stable identifiers separately too, rather than trying to recover them from the title. Are the numbers unique within one series, or do you have several series that each start from 1?
