How should the article title and SEO title be used in Busa CMS?

Hovhannes Vktarget

Busa CMS provides both an article title and an SEO title. If I want a short heading on the article page but a more descriptive browser title, which field should hold each version? When the SEO title is left unset, does the website use the article title, or does that fallback need to be configured on the website?

Short answer: put the on-page heading in the article Title, and the browser / search title in SEO title. If SEO title is empty, Busa CMS websites that use the standard metadata helpers fall back to the article title automatically — you do not need a separate site-side fallback for that case.

Which field holds which version

GoalField
Short heading readers see on the article pageTitle (article title)
Longer, descriptive <title> / Open Graph titleSEO title
Meta description for search snippetsSEO description (when present)

Fallback when SEO title is unset

In the Busa CMS SDK metadata path, the document title is resolved as:

seoTitle ?? title

So:

  1. If you set SEO title → that string is used as the absolute browser title.
  2. If you leave SEO title blank → the article title is used.
  3. You only need custom website configuration if your front-end does not use these CMS metadata helpers and builds <title> itself.

Practical pattern

  • Title: Launch checklist (clean H1)
  • SEO title: Launch checklist for Busabase workspaces | Your Brand
  • Leave SEO title empty only when the article title is already good enough for the tab and SERP.

How to verify

  1. Open the article in CMS → set Title and leave SEO title empty → preview / view page source → <title> should match the article title.
  2. Set a distinct SEO title → reload → <title> should match the SEO title, while the on-page heading still shows the article title.

If your deployed site still shows a generic site name only, check that the front-end calls the CMS metadata helper (or equivalent seoTitle ?? title logic) rather than a hardcoded default.
